Wisconsin Insurers Pay a High Price for Worker’s Compensation Treatment, According to a Recent WCRI Study
The Worker’s Compensation Research Institute (WCRI) released the 8th Edition of its Medical Price Index for Worker’s Compensation last month. The study compared the price of providing worker’s compensation treatment in 31 large American states. Wisconsin was among the 31 states studied, and the results revealed that Wisconsin is a definite outlier when it comes to the cost of treating injured workers.
According to the study Wisconsin’s treatment prices were the highest of all the 31 states. Wisconsin’s worker’s compensation insurers paid 138% more than the median price for treatment in 2014 and 2015. The study also found that the cost of treatment rose by 30% in Wisconsin between 2008 and 2015, outpacing the price hikes in all the other states.
The results of this study are of major concern to Wisconsin employers, insurers, injured workers, and medical providers alike. Anyone interested in learning more about this topic can access the full-length article by visiting the WCRI’s website at www.wcrinet.org.
